John Smith

FAIRFIELD - John Armond Smith, 67, of Birmingham died at 8:05 a.m. Friday, March 21, 1986, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

He was born May 12, 1918, in Birmingham to Pearl A. and Mary I. Grammer Smith. He married Gloria J. Carstensen Nov. 1, 1964, and she survives.

He was a carpenter. He also worked as a custodian at Rockwell-Standard in Fairfield. He lived most of his life in Van Buren County, and was a member of the Fairfield Eagles Lodge.

He is also survived by one son, John E. Smith of Mount Sterling; one stepdaughter, Suzanne Miller of Birmingham; six grandchildren; one brother, Robert Smith of Birmingham; and four sisters, Shirley Norris of Birmingham, Bernice Collins of Ottumwa, and Mildred Channel and Ella Reed, both of Libertyville.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Behner Funeral Home, the Rev. David Kennedy officiating.

Cremation will follow the service. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery near Birmingham at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Birmingham Lions Club.
