Ned O. Haney

Ned O. Haney, 82, a longtime Macomb, Ill. pharmacist, died at 12:45 p.m. Friday, March 14 at McDonough District Hospital.

Born Jan. 30, 1904, in Keosauqua, a son of Oscar S. and Della M. Morrison Haney, he married Ellen Reitan Sept. 1, 1929, in Macomb.

A graduate of the University of Iowa, he worked as a pharmacist in Washington, Iowa, until 1929 when he moved to Macomb.

He was a pharmacist for J.G. Scott in 1929-30, then founded Haney Oct. 25, 1930. He sold the pharmacy to Jack Stites July 1, 1953, then worked for Stites from 1960-72.

A member of Wesley United Methodist Church, he also held memberships in the Macomb Lodge AF&AM; Morse Chapter 19, Royal Arch Masons; Macomb Commandry 61, McDonough County Scottish Rite, Order of DeMolay and Quincy Consistory.

He was a member of the Advisory Council of the Illinois College of Pharmacy from 1950-53; vice president of Prairie Council, Boy Scouts of America; a member of the board of Illinois Federation Retail Associations, a member of the board of McDonough County Cancer Society and Welfare Board and president of Macomb Chapter of Commerce in 1946-47.

Surviving are his wife; one brother, C. Russell Haney of Keosauqua; and one sister, Mrs. Gilbert B. (Dora) Layton of Vienna, Va. Two brothers preceded him in death.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Edward Hoffman officiating. Masonic rites were conducted at the services and burial was in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the Rotary Club Foundation or Salvation Army.
