Charlottie Steele dies at 90

Charolottie Steele, 90, 808 W. Washington, died at 8:45 p.m. Thursday at Jefferson County Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Heart Fund and The Cancer Fund.

A native and lifetime resident of Jefferson County, Mrs. Steele was born Nov. 24, 1895, the daughter of William and Cora Bell Woolums Turnbull. The family farmed until moving to Fairfield in 1922. She married Charles Steele Dec. 26, 1917 in Mt. Pleasant. He died July 4, 1956. A brother and a grandchild also preceded her in death.

Surviving are five daughters, Helen Teeter, Maxine Gittler, both of Fairfield, Ila Bittle, Oskaloosa, Pauline Gillaspie, Fortuna, Calif., Barbara Filson, Birmingham; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Steele was a member of the Methodist church.
