OBITUARY
Laard Charles Foster was born in Bonaparte Township, Van Buren County, Iowa, June 29, 1864, and died at the family residence two miles south of Big Mound, in Lee county, Iowa, March 11, 1894, aged 29 years, 8 months and 12 days. He was the only son and youngest child of William and Sarah Foster.
His father died January 3rd, 1891, when the responsibilities of the farm rested upon him, which he discharged with ability for one of his age, as his health permitted, he always being a delicate child, and if it had not been for his mother's tender nursing, he would not have grown to manhood.
At the age of twenty-one he united with the Presbyterian church at Sharon during a series of meetings conducted by the Rev. James Welch. He was a Sabbath school teacher and a faithful member, as his death bed gave evidence of his undying faith.
He was married May 20th, 1891, to Miss Ada Kelly, daughter of Horton Kelly, of Farmington, Iowa, a highly respected citizen. He is survived by his wife and infant daughter Grace, mother and two sisters, Mrs. Eli Wiley, of Big Mound, Iowa, and Mrs. Elwin Goodin, of Derby, Kansas, the latter not being present for the funeral services.
The funeral services were conducted from the church of which he was a member, by the Rev. Bruce, of Primrose, Iowa, reading from his favorite portion of scripture, the 23rd Psalm, and taking the text from the 14th chapter and 22nd verse of Proverbs. The music was rendered by the Congregational choir, of Farmington, Iowa, which was led by A. E. Townsend, singing "Pass under the rod," "Rock of Ages," and his favorite, "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." The pall bearerr [sic] were, Messrs. Sherman Taylor, Chas. Beard, Bruce Miller, Willis Barton, Dave Alexander and Joe Ketcham.
He was a dutiful son and brother, and a kind, affectionate husband and father. He was laid to rest by the side of his father and Grandfather Lichty.
