CLAUDE C. RYLAND
Claude C. Ryland was born at Bonaparte, Van Buren Co., Iowa, March 23, 1877, and died at the home of his mother, Mrs. John O. Morris, Jan. 17, 1910, at Bonaparte, aged 32 years, 9 months and 25 days.
His parents, Curtis V. and Clara S. Ryland, resided at Bonaparte until 188(3?) when they moved to Kansas City, Kan., where they resided until the death of his father in 1888 after which he returned with his mother and sister Dorothy to Bonaparte where he lived until 1899, when he enlisted in the Government Service, Troop A, 7th Cavalry, Havana, Cuba, returning in 1900 after an honorable discharge.
In 1901 he found employment with the John Deere Implement Company, Moline, Ill. Being an excellent scribe this rare accomplishment, together with his upright conduct, won several promotions from the firm, and he was at the time of his death a valued employee as shipping clerk.
July 18, 1903, he was married to Miss Gertrude Bon(a)log of Moline; here the home was made and all his interests centered there; his leisure moments being used in beautifying and making it attractive.
In October 1909, he returned to Bonaparte in failing health. All that loving and willing hands could do was done to alleviate his sufferings and prolong his life, but Death suddenly terminated a promising life of usefulness.
His mother, wife and sister, with other relatives and many true friends are left to mourn for the "dear one" whose life was so brief.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. Druse of the M.E. church, were held Jan. 19, at the home of Jno. O. Morris and interment made in the Bonaparte cemetery.
Among the many and beautiful floral offerings was the "Fallen Leaf" from his fellow workmen of Moline, Ill.
The kindness and sympathy shown us by friends and relatives during the illness and death of our dear one shall always be thankfully remembered.
