MAREE CARTER

Maree Carter, daughter of Curtis Harris and Evelyn Drew Teeter, was born September 7, 1902 west of Hillsboro and departed this life early the morning of Wednesday, October 8, 1986 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, at the age of 84.

She lived all her life in the Hillsboro and Stockport communities. She received her early education in the Hillsboro schools, finished high school in Mt. Pleasant, and graduated from Des Moines University in 1924. She taught school at Polo, Missouri and Prairie Corner country school in Van Buren County.

On June 5, 1927 she married Allen Bruce Carter at Fort Madison, Iowa. He preceded her in death January 26, 1970. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, Charles A. Teter of Lawrence, Kansas, two sisters, Hazel, age five years, and Irene Perry of Aurora, Colorado, a half-brother, Clarence Teter of California and a half-sister, Birdie Shelman of Hillsboro.

Remaining to cherish her memory are three sons, Robert of Ann Arbor, Michigan, William of Stockport, and Richard of Des Moines, two daughters, Ramona Clark of Stockport and Barbara Carter of San Rafael, California, eight grandfather, four great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Carter became a member of the Hillsboro Baptist Church and later transferred her membership to the Stockport Christian Church. She was also a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship and the L.L.G. Club at Stockport.
