Stephen E. Coleman

Stephen E. Coleman, son of Theodore and Sarah Elizabeth Geiger Coleman, was born August 29, 1900 in Henry County and departed this life late the afternoon of Tuesday, December 2, 1986 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, at the age of 86.

He married Iva E. Young, November 11, 1924 in Mt. Pleasant. They lived in Henry County until moving to their present farm home west of Mt. Sterling in 1936. Mr. Coleman was a farmer and race horse breeder, trainer and owner, and had been a jockey. He was a member of the Horseman's Benevolent and Protective Association.

Surviving are his wife; four sons, Kenneth, Bonaparte, Eugene, Birmingham, Gary, Fairfield, and Marvin, Dakota City, Nebraska; two daughters, Mary E. Harward, Fairfield, and Darla Casady, Cantril. Also surviving are 31 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, a brother, Theodore, Mt. Pleasant, a sister, Marie Orndorff, Mechanicsville.

Three sons, Leslie, Keith and Charles, seven grandchildren, thee brothers, three sisters and a half-sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 5, 1986 at 10 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. Interment was in Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. A memorial was established.
