Robert D. Snodgrass

Robert Dean Snodgrass, son of Robert and Dorothy Cass Snodgrass, was born March 3, 1932 at Vernon and died the morning of Saturday, Nov. 15, 1986 at Van Buren Community Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 54.

Most of Bob's life was spent in Van Buren County. He graduated from Fort Madison High School in 1950 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 until 1955. He farmed and for more than thirty years worked in the Van Buren County Engineer's office as a technician and Assistant County Engineer. During his tenure he took part in the engineering and construction of Des Moines River bridges at Douds, Pittsburg, Selma and Bentonsport, and was inspector on the construction of the county's system of blacktop highways.

He was a member of the Keosauqua Christian Church, the Iowa Engineers' Technicians Association and was a leader in the movement to obtain rural water for Van Buren County.

On June 5, 1953, Bob was united in marriage to Jeraldine Hunt. Survivors include his wife, along with five daughters, Bobbette Lauer and her husband, James of Burlington, Melinda Mast and her husband, Mark of Agency, Doreen Swigart and her husband, Kevin and Maureen Baum and her husband, Gerald all of Keosauqua and Tracy Christiansen and her husband, Rocky, of Fort Worth, Texas and a son, Delivan at home. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, his mother, Dorothy Snodgrass of Keosauqua, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 18, 1986 at 11 A.M. in the Keosauqua Christian Church with Rev. Bob Patterson officiating. Interment was in Prall Cemetery near the Snodgrass farm home south of Keosauqua.

Memorials were established for the Van Buren County Ambulance Service and the Keosauqua Senior Citizens Center. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
