Carl H. Tomkins

Carl H. Tomkins, 91, formerly of Stockport, died at 2:95 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1991, at Nelson Nursing Home.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Stockport Christian Church with the Rev. Ellis Beeman officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to Stockport Christian Church.

Tomkins was born Dec. 2, 1899, in Salem Township, Henry County, the son of George and Mary Hammands Tomkins. He married Irene Brown in 1923 in Keosauqua. He had been a store clerk in a Stockport grocery store for 30 years and a custodian for 10 years in Stockport schools. He had lived all of his life in Stockport until moving to Nelson Nursing Home, was a member of Stockport Christian Church and Stockport Lions Club.

Surviving are his wife of Fairfield; a son, Carl Jr. of Vista, Calif.; a daughter, Joyce E. Paaske of Cordele, Ga.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A daughter, Vivian Thornton, a brother, Willie and a sister, Lena Anderson, preceded him in death.
