KARL J. SWYGARD

Mr. Karl J. Swygard, 73, died after a long illness at his home in Birmingham Monday, April 29. He had been a resident of Birmingham for about 16 years.

Mr. Swygard was born at Burlington on Aug. 5, 1889, the son of William H. and Mary M. Berges Swygard. On Aug. 4, 1915, he was married to Ruth Van Nice. She survives as do two sons and a daughter, William Swygard, Hialeah, Fla., Jerry Swygard, Fairfield, and Mrs. Nancy Dunbar, Buffalo, N. Y. and nine grandchildren.

Two brothers and two sisters also survive: William Swygard, Des Moines, John Swygard and Mrs. Minnie Luckenbill, both of Mediapolis and Mrs. Viola Joy, West Burlington.

Two sons, a daughter and a brother died previously.

Funeral services will be held at the Burch funeral home, Birmingham at 11 a. m. Thursday in charge of the Rev. Wayne Hoehns, pastor of the Birmingham Methodist church and Walter Vander Linden, pastor of the Birmingham Free Methodist church. Burial will be in Kossuth cemetery near Mediapolis.
