Marion Marshall Blackburn 1858-1936

Marion Marshall Blackburn, oldest daughter of Barbara Gibson Marshall and Thomas Marshall, was born near Glasgow, Scotland, Jan. 26, 1856. She crossed the ocean with her parents in 1860, the family locating in Trenton, New Jersey.

Her father, being a mechanical e******** , was sent to superintend construction of rolling mills in Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and Kansas, where he died.

Marion and her sisters went with their mother to Branford, Ontario after the death of the father, and lived here several years. She later returned to Louisiana, Mo., where she was united in marriage with Stephen Henry Blackburn on March 22, 1877. To this union was born one son, Clarence William Blackburn.

In 1882 they moved to Bonaparte, where for years Mr. Blackburn was superintendent of the Meek Flouring Mills. He died in 1910. Mrs. Blackburn and son, Clarence, continued to live in Bonaparte until a few years ago when they went to Ottumwa, and later to Wichita, Kansas, where her death occurred, after an illness of only a few days on Jan. 10, 1936 at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 16 days.

Mrs. Blackburn united with the Bonaparte Presbyterian Church on May 3, 1885, and was a faithful and conscientious member throughout her life, being especially active in the Ladies Aid. She was also an active member Chapter AB. P.E.O. Mrs. Blackburn was kind and generous and every ready to help in any work that was for the good of the community.

She is survived by her son, Clarence, of Wichita, Kansas; and three sisters, Mrs. Jennie Cresap and Mrs. Agnes Meek, of Bonaparte; and Mrs. Elizabeth Middleton, of Wichita, Kansas. Also many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Bonaparte Presbyterian Church by Rev. Robert G. Alexander Monday at 2:30 P.M. Interment was in Bonaparte cemetery.
