Funeral services for Iva Mary [Murphy] Hixson, 87 were held Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at the Congregational Un. Church of Christ in Douglas, WY with Rev. Martin E. Strom officiating and the Order of Eastern Star Woodbine Chapter #18 conducting rites. Interment was in the Douglas Park Cemtery.

Mrs. Hixson died Friday, May 5, 2000 at Michael Manor in Douglas following a brief illness.

She was born September 24, 1912 in Keosauqua, Iowa, the daughter of Morris and Ethel (Kisling) Murphy. She was reared and educated in Keosauqua, and graduated from the Keosauqua High School. She taught school for one and half years at a country school near Keosauqua. She was married to J. Benn Hixson on January 17, 1933 in Memphis, MO., to this union two daughters and one son were born.

The family left Iowa in 1941 coming to Ft. Collins, CO for one year, and during World War II they lived in Cheyenne, WY. She worked at the community center at Frontier Villa as a United Airlines employee while living in Cheyenne. They then moved to Sheridan for one and half years and in 1947 moved to Douglas residing here until the time of her death. She worked for 17 years at the Douglas School District Lunch Program, retiring in 1965.

She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ; Coffee Group, Ex-cooks from the school lunch program; Jolly 13 Club; and 42 year member of Order of Eastern Star Woodbine Chapter #18. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, helping Benn remodeling old houses for rentals, and 30 years of square dancing and traveling while meeting many life long friends.

She is survived by two children, Janet Unnerstall of Denver, CO and Edwin Hixson, of Pavillom, WY; one brother, Lawrence Murphy of Keosauqua; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Benn on Marh 25, 2000; oldest daughter, Marilyn, in 1958; two brothers, John Murphy and Floyd Murphy; and one great granddaughter, Kim, in 1999.

A memorial to the Douglas Senior Citizens' Center, P.O Box 192, Douglas, WY 82633 would be appreciated by the family.
