John Kenneth Murphy, Sr. 1910 - 1983

Services for John Kenneth Murphy 73, were held Monday, August 15, 1983 at Bustard Funeral Home, Casper, Wyoming. Rev. Stephen Day of Christ Un. Methodist Church officiated with burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Murphy died August 11, 1983 at Rose Medical Hospital at Denver, Colo.

Born Aug. 2, 1910, [parents were Morris and Ethel Kisling Murphy], he was reared and educated at Keosauqua,[Ia]. Mr. Murphy served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged in 1945.

On Aug. 14, 1947 he married Marie Bennett at Keosauqua. Mr. Murphy was employed by Rigsby's Garage at Keosauqua and in 1948, they moved to Douglas [Wy.] and later to Casper [Wy.] where he worked for Mobil Oil Refinery until it closed. He worked for one year for the Natrona County school system and then returned to Little America Refinery and retired in 1975.

Mr. Murphy was a member of the American Legion Post No. 113 at Keosauqua and the Eagles Lodge No. 306 of Casper. He was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

Besides his widow, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Keith (Jeri) Pearson, and one son, John K. Jr., and three grandchildren, all of Houston; one brother, Lawrence of Keosauqua; a sister, Mrs. Benn (Iva) Hixson of Douglas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Memorials to Flight for Life would be appreciated by the family.
