Alva H. (Casey) Meeker, 66, of 601 N. Wapello died at 8:25 a.m. Nov. 12, 1985, at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
He was born Feb. 14, 1919, in Wapello County to Warren L. and Mary E. Welsh Meeker. A lifelong resident Ottumwa, he was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad for 36 years. A World War II Army Veteran, he served in the Central Europe, European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Brotherhood of Local Engineers. He married Barbara F. Greenlee on Jan. 4, 1947, in Fairfield.
He is survived by his wife; four sons, Richard of Ottumwa, Officer Candidate John A. Meeker of Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Thomas of Cedar Rapids, and Paul of Bunnell, Fla.; three daughters, Marjorie Woodard of Burlington, Geane Davis of Lucedale, Miss., and Frances Johnson of Mountainburg, Ark., 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Roscoe of Fairgrove, Mo., a sister, Hazel Knecht of Douds.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Chapel of the Cross, Shrine of Memories Funeral Home in Ottumwa, the Rev. James Trueblood officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. from Thursday at the Shrine of Memories.
