Henry Bates Peacock died Aug. 17 in Dallas. He was 91.
He was born in 1894 on the family farm near Lebanon, Iowa. He graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1916 and received his master's degree and doctorate in physics from the University of Iowa. Dr. Peacock began teaching at the University of Arizona and became a pioneer in geophysics. He worked for the Geophysical Research Corporation and later became president of Geophysical Service, Inc. He became president and an honorary member of the Explorative Geophysicists and Geologists Society and an honorary life member of the Dallas Geophysical Society and an honorary life member of the Dallas Geophysical Society.
He was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas and was a member of the Official Board.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen Marie Peacock, a Keosauqua native; sons and daughters-in-law, Elwin and Jane Peacock of Houston; Robert and Sylvia Peacock of Stavanger, Norway; brother, Rex Peacock of Keosauqua; sisters, Mrs. Claude Pittman of Des Moines and Mrs. Dwight DeHart of Keosauqua.
He was entombed at Restland Chapel Gardens Mausoleum in Dallas. Memorials may be made to: Dr. Davis Scholarship Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3500 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas 75205; the American Diabetes Association; or the charity of your choice.
