ELSIE STARR

Elsie E. Starr, 72, Keokuk, died Tuesday, March 12, 1985 at Keokuk Area Hospital.

She was born October 12, 1912 at Hannibal, Missouri the daughter of Harry and Jennie Franks Sawyers. She married Neil Starr on August 9, 1948 at Hannibal.

She was a school teacher in the Sawyer Consolidated Schools at Sawyer, Iowa; and Lincoln, Garfield and the Middle School in Keokuk. For the last year and a half, she operated the Starr's Antique Store at 714 Main Street. She received her degree at the Northeast Missouri Teachers College and attended Northeast Missouri Teachers College and Western Illinois University.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Retired Teachers Association, the I.S.E.A., the P.E.O., White Shrine, Capa Delta Gamma, and was a past worthy matron of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband, and a brother Thomas Sawyers of Cedar Rapids.

A memorial has been established.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Schmidt-Vigen Memorial Home with the Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery.

Cremation took place in March, so there will be no visitation.

Elsie E. Starr, 72, former Farmington resident of Keokuk, died Tuesday, March 12, 1985 at the Keokuk Area Hospital.

She was born October 12, 1912 at Hannibal, Missouri, the daughter of Harry and Jennie Franks Sawyers. She married Neil E. Stars on August 9, 1948 at Hannibal.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Retired Teachers Association, the I.S.E.A., the P.E.O., White Shrine, Kappa Delta Gamma, and was a past worthy Matron of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband Neil and a brother, Thomas Sawyers of Cedar Rapids.

She graduated from Farmington High School in 1930.
