Lewis F. Elder
BIRMINGHAM - Services were held this afternoon for Lewis F. Elder, 80, former Birmingham resident who died Friday, May 17, in the New London Care Center, after a long illness. The service was held at Burch-Raymond Funeral H0me. Burial was in Burge Cemetery, New London, with Masonic rites.
Mr. Elder was born Sept. 5, 1904, in Illinois, to Lewis Franklin and Effie Coss Elder. He was a graduate of Culver-Stockton College, Canton, Mo. He coached and taught for 20 years at schools in New London and Morning Sun.
He married Frances Whately, who died in 1956; in 1965 he married Mary Smith McBride. He had been a resident of Birmingham for 20 years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Lodge.
Surviving: His wife; a son, Bruce, Carlsbad, Calif.; three daughters, Janice Thornburg, Columbus Junction, and Pamela Morrison and Judy Fye, both of Mt. Pleasant; a stepson, Floyd McBride, Birmingham; a step-daughter, Jacque Cupps, Oquawka, Ill.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
