LLOYD T. BENNETT

Lloyd Thomas Bennett, son of David Walter and Allena Madden Bennett, was born September 6, 1914 near Mt. Sterling and departed this life early the morning of Tuesday, October 8, 1985 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 71.

He lived his life in the Mt. Sterling-Cantril community. Lloyd was a farmer and for many years did custom sheep shearing.

He was a long-time active member of the Cantril United Methodist Church and a member of its administrative board. He also served many years on the Des Moines Township election board.

In 1936 he married Marjorie Heminger.

On September 10, 1983, he married Grace Walker, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Janet Gregg of Fort Madison and Sondra Bennett of Dubuque; a step-daughter Kay Roush, Keosauqua; a step-son, Glen Walker, Harrisburg, Illinois; three grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; and six sisters, Lillie Kimmel of Bettendorf, Madeline Laughlin of Iowa Falls, Ruth Alexander of Alpha, Illinois, Esther Sedore of Bentonsport, Rachel Creek and Phyllis Linn, both of New Windsor, Illinois. An infant daughter, Wanda, and a sister, Ellen Lancaster, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 10, 1985 at 2 p.m. in the Cantril United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Butler, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Harness Cemetery, Mt. Sterling. Memorials were established for the Cantril United Methodist Church and Van Buren County Memorial Hospital. Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua was in charge of arrangements.
