Ruth H. Davies

Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 14, 1985, for Ruth H. Davies at the United Church of Christ in Ipswich, S.D. Rev. Ernie Hirschoff officiated. Burial was at the Pleasant Hill cemetery at Powell. The Hein Funeral Home of Ipswich was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth H. Davies was born on August 28, 1901 to Ormsby and Alice Halsted at Oconto Falls, Wisc. She attended school there and then graduated from Green Bay, Wisconsin High School. She then came to the Powell, S.D. community where she was a school teacher. In December of 1922 she was married to Thomas L. Davies. They lived on a farm in the Powell community. She then attended Aberdeen School of Business. She then was employed at Brookings, Aberdeen, then moved to Hollywood, California, where she worked for the Pan Pacific Plumbing company until her retirement in 1976.

She made her home with her son at Milton, Iowa, for a time, and for the past five years has been a resident of Van Buren Good Samaritan Center. She passed away Thursday, April 11, at the Van Buren County memorial Hospital in Keosauqua. She attained the age of 83 years, seven months, and 13 days.

Mrs. Davies is survived by one son, Roger Davies and his wife, Wanda; two grandsons: Chris, and his wife, Karla; of Brighton, Iowa; Tom, and his wife, Karen, of Des Moines, Iowa, two greatgrandsons; Scott and Tom; one sister (Meryl), Mrs. Luther Anderson, of Hollywood, Calif; one brother, John Halsted, of Portland, Ore.; one foster daughter, Marg, (Mrs. William Monday), of Hollywood, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1948; two sisters and two brothers.
