George Yahnke

BLOOMFIELD George Yahnke, 89, of 101 E. Franklin, a longtime car salesman in Davis and Van Buren counties, died at his home on July 24, 1985.

He was born May 20, 1896, in West Grove to Fred and Elizabeth Shaffer Yahnke. A World War I veteran, he was a member of the Troy United Methodist Church, World War I Barracks 2500, American Legion and the Troy IOOF Lodge. He married Edith Garrett on Dec. 27, 1925.

He is survived by his wife; a sister, Lucy Archer of Ottumwa; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda, in 1975.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Priester Funeral Chapel in Bloomfield, the Rev. Marilyn Butler officiating. Burial will be in the Troy Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 78.

Memorials can be made to the Troy United military rites by American Legion Post 78.

Visitation is open.

The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service.
