Bessie Mathias

SELMA Bessie A. Mathias, 83, of Selma died Dec. 15, 1985, at the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

She was born July 27, 1902, in Selma to Franklin and Carrie Bell Lewis Ransom. She spent most of her life in Van Buren County. She was a member of the Meggido Mission in Rochester, N.Y. She married George Mathias on Oct. 17, 1922 in Fairfield.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Marie Sutton of Rochester, N.Y. and Barbara Crum of Bondurant, N.Y.; three sons, Clifford of Rochester, N.Y., Junior of Birmingham, and Roy of Russell; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pink Pearson of Selma.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Campbell Funeral Home in Eldon. Burial will be in the Iowaville Cemetery near Eldon.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established to the Eldon Rescue Unite.
