HERBERT DEE MEGRATH

Herbert Dee Megrath, son of Edward and Lillie Badgley Megrath, was born December 15, 1911 near Lebanon and departed this life the evening of Tuesday, May 28, 1985 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 73.

his life was spent farming in the Lebanon community and for 13 years he drove a Van Buren Community School bus, retiring to Keosauqua in 1982.

On August 16, 1961 he married Alice Epperly Hetzler. She survives.

Also surviving are four stepsons, Larry Hetzler, Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Donald Hetzler, Hazen, North Dakota, Ronald Hetzler, Madison, Wisconsin, and James Hetzler, Ottumwa; seven step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Megrath; a niece, Duana Megrath; a nephew, Edward Megrath; two great nieces and a great nephew. his parents, a brother Paul, a half-brother Lester and four step-grandchildren preceded him in death.

Dee was a life-time member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II and was a member of Beer-Barker Post No. 113, American Legion at Keosauqua.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 31, 1985 at 2 p.m. in the Lebanon United Methodist Church with Dr. Chris Daniel, pastor officiating. Interment with military rites by Beer-Barker Post, was in Lebanon Cemetery. Memorials were established for the Lebanon United Methodist Church and Van Buren County Memorial Hospital. Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, was in charge of arrangements.
