Edna Canaday

BIRMINGHAM - Edna O. Canaday, 93, formerly of Birmingham died at 8:15 a.m. April 8, 1985, at the Park View Care Center in Fairfield where she had been a resident for three and a half years.

She was born April 23, 1891, in Van Buren County to Henry L. and Sadie Sherod Jackson. She married Elmer Alonzo Canaday on Dec. 21, 1910, at Birmingham. He died Nov. 29, 1965. She and her husband had lived on farms in Jefferson and Van Buren counties until their retirement in 1951 when they moved to Birmingham. She joined the Bethel Church in 1914 and transferred her membership in 1951 to the Birmingham United Methodist Church.

She is survived by four sons, Earl of Birmingham, John of Boulder, Colo., Robert of De Witt, and Dean of Holt, Mo.; a daughter, Karen Streed of Marshalltown; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded by three children and a grandson.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Birmingham United Methodist Church, the Revs. Duane Olsen and David Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at their convenience at the Burch-Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham.

A memorial has been established to her church or to the Birmingham Library.
