CLAELIA L. PARISH

Claelia L. Parish, daughter of Leon and Charlotte Talbott Therme, was born December 12, 1884 near Anson in Clark County, Missouri and departed this life the morning of Saturday, February 23, 1985 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 100 years, two months and 11 days.

On October 28, 1903 she married Theron L. Parish at her parents home. The Parishes engaged in several businesses in Mt. Sterling, Iowa including the postal service, furniture and undertaking, real estate, a restaurant and the produce business. She had recently made her home at the Van Buren Good Samaritan Center, where she celebrated her 100the birthday at an open house held December 9, 1984. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Volney Therme, a sister, Fannie Allen, a son, Charles Parish, a daughter Merle Anson and her husband Charles and a great-granddaughter, Kelly Parish.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law Cora Parish, Englewood, Colorado; five grandchildren, Marilyn Anson Barkalow, Webster, Wisconsin, William Anson, Kuna, Idaho, Eleanor Joy Anson Smith, Cresswell, Oregon, Richard Anson, Westminster, Colorado, and Charles Parish, Ursa, Illinois; 13 great-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was a long time member and leader of the Keosauqua Christian Church, a 50year member and past matron of Lunds Chapter No. 27, Order of Eastern Star, and a member of Chapter I, P.E.O., Delphian Study Club and Repubjican(err) Women. She had served as secretary of the Purdom Cemetery Association and worked in the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the former Sheep empire Association, and the Descendents of the Icarian Society, in which she was the oldest living first generation descendent.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 26, 1985 at 2 p.m. in the Keosauqua Christian Church with Rev. Bob Patterson officiating. Eastern Star rites by Lynds Chapter were held at 7 p.m. Monday, February 25 at Pedrick Funereal Home. Interment was in Purdom Cemetery. A memorial was established for her church.
