Walter R. Bentzinger

Walter R. Bentzin(g)er was born on December 30, 1932, in Lee County, Iowa to Sam and Vissa Clark Bentzinger. The family moved to the Mt. Sterling area in 1939, where Walt grew up.

Walt graduated from the Keosauqua Public High School in 1951. In December of 1951, he was married to Henrietta Peacock who died in childbirth in 1958. In August of 1962 he married Carolyn Yarnell, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter Delilah Archibald and her husband Doug of Minneapolis, Minn.; two sons, Randy and his wife Lisa and Kevin, all of Keosauqua; two granddaughters Hayley Dawn and Carley Rae; and the twins Kathy Pink and her husband Kevin of Jamestown, N.D. and Kriss and her husband Brian Donnelly of Independence, Iowa. Other survivors are a brother Richard of Keosauqua; sisters Geneva Bealmer of Quincy, Ill., and Juanita Lee of Libertyville, Iowa; nephews, nieces and other relatives and many friends.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Oshwin and Floyd, and a sister Doris Waldren.

Walt was engaged in farming and drove a stock truck for several years. He was an avid sports fan and coached the White Sox Little League team in Keosauqua for several years, as well as the men's softball team.

Walt was employed by the Ebony Angus Farm and Van Buren Schools at the time of his death.

Walt will be remembered as a good and loving husband and father and missed greatly by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 24, 1985 at 2 p.m. in the Keosauqua United Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Fox and Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Interment was in the Lebanon Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home. A memorial was established for the Van Buren County Ambulance Service.
