Mabel I. Baker

Mrs. Mabel Irene Phillips Baker from near Azen, Mo., died at Scotland County Hospital, Memphis, Mo., Monday, March 4, 1985 at the age of 70.

She was born June 8, 1914, near Azen, Mo., the youngest daughter of George and Augusta (Kessel) Phillips.

Mabel joined the Prairieview Methodist Church at 16 years of age, She served as a teacher and secretary of the Church for several years.

She was married to Paul Baker at Kahoka, Mo., on March 4, 1933. They were parents of three children: Lila June (Baker) Jameson of West Caldwell, N.J., Larry Paul, who died at the age of 8 months; and James Eldon Baker of Burlington, Iowa.

Mabel was accepeted as a member of the Ann Royall Chapter, Ritchie County, W. Va., of the DAR in 1972. She worked as a Genealogist and was author of four books. She enjoyed helping others trace their ancestry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant son, and three brothers: George Arue, John and Francis Marian.

She was survived by her husband, her children, her son-in-law Frederick Paul Jameson, her daughter-in-law, Gwenda Baker, her grandchildren: Jennifer Lynne, Frederick Paul and Timothy Hunter Jameson, all of West Caldwell, N.J., and Jeffery Eldon, Karen Christine, and Kimberly Anne Baker, all of Kirksville, Mo., and Terry L. Harvey, two sisters, Mae Roberts and Helen Hanan, both of California.

Services were held Wednesday, March 6, 1985 at 11 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. Interment was in Prairieview Cemetery near Azen. A memorial was established for the American Cancer Society.

Mabel Baker

CANTRIL - Mabel Irene Phillips Baker, 70, of the Azen Community in Scotland County, Mo., south of Cantril died March 4, 1985, at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Mo.

She was born June 8, 1914, near Azen to George and Augusta Kessel Phillips. She lived her life in the area. She married Paul Baker on March 4, 1933 at Kahoka, Mo. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Parkview Methodist Church near Azen. She had worked as a genealogist and was the author of four books. She had been a Sunday school teacher and secretary.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Lila June Jameson of West Caldwell, N.J.; a son, James E. of Burlington; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Mae Roberts and Helen Hanan, both of California. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, the Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. Burial will be in the Prairieview Cemetery west of Azen.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8 p.m. this evening.

A memorial has been established to the Cancer Fund and may be left at the funeral home.
