THEODORE L. "JERRY" CLAPPER

Theodore L. "Jerry" Clapper, was born September 18, 1908 in Joplin, Missouri, the son of Charles and Ida Mae Sherman Clapper, and departed this life the morning of Thursday, January 24, 1985 at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa, at the age of 76.

On October 14, 1931 he married Ethel Runquist in Galesburg, Illinois. They lived in Burlington and in Missouri, and moved to Keosauqua in 1936. Mrs. Clapper died in 1976. Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Dora and Iva and a grandson, Mark Diehl.

Surviving are three daughters, Betty Hirzy, Olathe, Kansas, Jeannette Smith, Grand Island, Nebraska, and Donna Bruggeman, Keosauqua; a son, Ted of Ankeny; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Sylvia Young, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Florence Oliver, Burlington and Floma Davis, Joplin, Missouri; a brother, Luther, San Diego, California; and a half-brother, Orville Brown, Libertyville.

Jerry operated Standard Oil bulk plants in Douds and Keosauqua and for many years owned and operated Keosauqua Plumbing and Electric. He served a number of years as Keosauqua Fire Chief and was a member of the Izaak Walton League.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 26, 1985 at 2 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Bob Patterson officiating. Interment was in Fellows Cemetery, Keosauqua. A memorial was established with donations to the charity of the donor's choice.
