Hazel L. Bonnett

Hazel L. Bonnett, daughter of Vermil and Caroline Patrick Hootman, was born April 14, 1894 at Mount Zion and died Saturday, Jan. 26, 1985 at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua at the age of 90. She had resided in the care center since 1972.

She graduated from Birmingham High School in 1913.

On June 13 she married Dale Bonnett at his parents home in Jefferson County. They spent their active life farming in the Birmingham - Keosauqua area, retiring to Keosauqua in 1970. Mr. Bonnett died July 18, 1975 and their daugher(err), Mildred, preceded her father in death by ten days. Two brothers, Dale and Clem Hootman also preceded Mrs. Bonnett in death. Surviving are two daughters, Beryl Brown, Birmingham and Birdie Leavitt, Washington. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Barbara Fitzwater, Clifford Brown, Richard Leavitt, and David Leavitt, nine great grandchildren, a great great grandchild, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Bonnett was a member of the Birmingham Presbyterian Church and Mount Zion Ladies Aid and active as long as her health permitted.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 29, 1985 at 10:30 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Charles McCracken officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham.

KEOSAUQUA - Hazel L. Bonnett, 90, Keosauqua, died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center.

She was born April 14, 1894, at Mt. Zion, to Vermil and Caroline Patrick Hootman. She graduated from Birmingham High School in 1913. On June 4, 1913, she married Dale Bonnett at his parents' home in Jefferson County. They farmed in the Birmingham-Keosauqua area, retiring to Keosauqua in 1970.

Mr. Bonnett and a daughter, Mildred, both died in July of 1975.

Surviving: Two daughters, Beryl Brown, Birmingham, and Birdie Leavitt, Washington; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was a member of the Birmingham United Presbyterian Church and Mt. Zion Ladies Aid.

Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, the Rev. Charles McCracken; Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
