ETTA O. POLING

Etta O. Poling, daughter of Stephen and Sarah Hilliard Morris, was born October 21, 1896 near Granger, Missouri and departed this life the afternoon of Tuesday, December 25, 1984 at Burlington, at the age of 88.

She grew up in Clark County, Missouri, south of Mt. Sterling, Iowa, attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers' College in Kirksville, and taught a number of years in rural schools in Missouri and Van Buren County, Iowa. On February 18, 1928 she married Arthur Poling at the Methodist parsonage in Keosauqua. Their married life has been spent farming in Van Buren County. For more than 50 years they have lived on the same farm between Pittsburg and Lebanon.

Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Mary Cecile and son-in-law James L. Hodges of Wapello; two grandsons, Michael Arthur Hodges and his wife Joan and James David Hodges and his wife Kirsten. Also surviving are two great-grandsons, Robert David and Michael Benjamin, a great-granddaughter Stephanie Kirsten.

Three brothers, Harold, Phil and Melvin Morris preceded her in death.

Mrs. Poling was a Methodist and was a member of the Gray Ladies Aid.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 28, 1984 at 11 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Rev. Orville Jank, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wapello, officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cantril. A memorial was established for the Keosauqua Public Library.
