KEOSAUQUA - Services for Mrs. Evelyn J. Carruthers, 68, of Keosauqua, who died Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Van Buren Memorial Hospital, will be held at the Christian Church at 10:30 a.m. Friday, the Rev. Robert Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Fellows Cemetery. A memorial to the Christian Church has been established at Pedrick Funeral Home.

She was born Sept. 24, 1915, in Van Buren county, to James R. and Lelah Murphy Burkett. She graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1933. She married Willard E. Carruthers on Jan. 2, 1937, at Kahoka, Mo.

She taught school before joining the dietary department of Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, where she worked for 21 years. She was a member of the Keosauqua Christian Church.

Surviving: Her husband; five sons, Dr. Richard, Davenport, Darrell, Mt. Pleasant, Steven, Burlington, Fred, Mediapolis, and Dan, Enid, Okla.; two daughters, Sue Gilchrist and Deb Kirchner, both of Burlington; brother Fred Burkett, Keosauqua; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

KEOSAUQUA - Evelyn Carruthers, 68, of Keosauqua, died at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, Sep. 4 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua.

She was born Sept. 4, 1915, in Van Buren county, the daughter of James R. and Lelah Murphy Burkett. She graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1933. On Jan. 2, 1937, she married Willard E. Carruthers at Kahoka, Mo.

She taught school before being employed 21 years in the dietary department of Van Buren County Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Keosauqua Christian Church.
