Orrie F. Watkins

Orrie F. Watkins of Moline, Ill., died March 17, 1984, at the Moline Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where he had resided over a year.

Orrie Watkins graduated from high school in the class of 1923. He played center on both of football and basketball teams.

He was born Sept. 1, 1902, near Mt. Sterling, Iowa, to Charles Watkins and Jennie Lodwick Baughman. He was educated in the Keosauqua schools. On June 20, 1925, at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he married Shirley E. Holcomb. She died in Moline, Jan. 12, 1970.

He is survived by his elder daughter, Jean E. (Mrs. Albert) Swanson of Mendota, Ill., her children, Andrew, Brian, Dennet of Mendota, and Colin, now serving with the Navy in the Mediterranean, and a granddaughter, Heather Harris Horn (Mrs. Douglas) of Triumph. He is also survived by several nieces, Mrs. Iris (John) Parsons of Knoxville, Mrs. Shirley Jean (William) Riley of Des Moines, Mrs. Patricia (Ellsworth) Cook of East Pleasant Plain; Mrs. Judy Ann (James) Huffman of Keosauqua; Mrs. Mary L. (Dale) Somers of Central City; Mrs. Phyllis (Robert) Woodford of Cedar Rapids, and nephews, Kent and Francis Shakespeare in California.

Visitation was Wendt's Funeral Home, Moline on Tuesday, March 20, 1984 with Masonic services at 7 P.M. The funeral was on Wednesday, March 21, 1984 at 11 a.m. with burial at the Rose Lawn Memorial Estates Cemetery. Memorials are to the Keosauqua Public Library or the charity of the donor's choice.
