Phil W. Hixson

Phil W. Hixson, son of Luther and Florence Shaw Hixson, was born Sept. 20, 1910 near Hillsboro and died the evening of Sunday, April 15, 1984 at Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant at the age of 73.

He graduated from Hillsboro High School and Fort Madison Business College, and except for seven years in Oklahoma, lived his life in the Hillsboro community.

On March 2, 1935 he married Kathryn Tade at Guthrie, Oklahoma. She remains with their daughter, Sara Spurbeck and her husband Wayne of Waverly, Iowa, two grandsons, William and Michael Spurbeck, other relatives and friends. His parents, a brother, Lester, and infant twin sisters preceded him in death.

Phil's active life was spent in the banking business. He worked in the bank at Salem, in a Coyle, Oklahoma Bank, and for many years was manager of the Hillsboro Bank. He retired in 1978 as a vice president of Hawkeye Bank and Trust Co.

He was a member of the Hillsboro Baptist Church and active in numerous community activities over the years.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 18, at 11 a.m. in the Hillsboro Baptist Church with Rev. Lester Smith and Rev. Ed Newman officiating. Interment was in Hillsboro Cemetery. A memorial was established. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
