AVA C. JOHNSTON

Ava C. Johnston, 85, long-time resident of Birmingham, died at 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 1984 at the Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

She was born September 25, 1898, in Trinidad, Colorado, the daughter of Lester T. and Wilda Brumley Clark. She was reared in Colorado and Nebraska and lived her entire married life in the Birmingham community.

She was married to Ralph M. Johnston on November 6, 1917 at the home of her parents, northwest of Birmingham in Jefferson County.

Mrs. Johnston was a member of the Birmingham Presbyterian Church, Van Buren County Historical Society, Bethel Ladies Aid, and the Presbyterian Womens organization.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Wesley Johnston, Burlington, Kenneth L. Johnston and Donald W. Johnston, both of Fairfield, and Charles D. Johnston, Pittsburg.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ralph Clark, Bloomfield, Dale Clark, Creston, and Eugene Clark, Starkville, Mississippi; and a sister, LaRue Frieberg Gallup, Fairfield. She was preceded in death by a grandson.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 20, 1984 at the Birmingham Presbyterian Church with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery. Burch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Birmingham Presbyterian Church and left at the funeral home.
