Lonnie J. Stone, Sr.

Lonnie J. Stone, son of John and Jennie Adams Stone, was born July 26, 1898 in Jefferson County, Iowa, and died the evening of Monday, March 5, 1984 at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Orman of rural Floris at the age of 85.

On April 16, 1920 he married Esther Gladys Adler in Ottumwa. They farmed in Jefferson and Van Buren counties as well as Davis County. They moved to the Selma-Floris area in 1945 and retired to Mt. Zion in 1968. Mr. Stone returned to Davis County to be near his children after Mrs. Stone's death in 1976. His parents and five sisters also preceded him in death.

Remaining are two sons, Lonnie, Jr., of Floris and Edward of Douds, and three daughters, Jane Hudak, Elizabeth of Pennsylvania, NOrman Orman of Floris, and Betty Steele of Bloomfield. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

He will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather, a good neighbor and friend.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 8, 1984 at 11 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with Rev. Brian Wills of the Ottumwa Free Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield. A memorial was established for the coronary care unit of the Ottumwa Hospital.
