Retta Maye Harlan

Retta Maye Harlan, 79, was born at Stockport, Iowa, the oldest daughter of Jay and Etta Veatch Morris, and passed away unexpectedly at the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua early Thursday morning, Nov. 17, 1983.

She was united in marriage to Ruby A. Harlan on May 7, 1927, in Pamona, Calif. to this union two sons were born: Ted Harlan and R.A. Harlan.

Except for a few years in California, her entire life was spent in Stockport and Burlington, Iowa, where she was a nurse in the hospital.

She is survived by her husband and two sons, Ted and family of Gulfport, Miss., and R.A. and family of Seattle, Wash., 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three sisters, Gladys McKee and Birdena Klise of Stockport, and joy Gardner of Monmouth, Ill., several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Harlan was a member of the Stockport United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Services were held Sunday, Nov. 20, 1983 at 2 p.m. at the Stockport United Methodist Church with Rev. David Kennedy officiating. Burial was in Spencer Cemetery near Stockport.

Memorials may be given to the Diabetic Association or the Stockport Library.

Burch Funeral Home of Birmingham was in charge of arrangements.
