JOSEPHINE E. BARKER

Josephine E. Barker, daughter of Arnold C. and Martha Van Eman Barker, was born Aug. 6, 1880 near Mount Zion, Van Buren County, Iowa, and died Saturday, Nov. 26, 1983 at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua at the age of 103.

She graduated from Wolf Academy at Birmingham and Birmingham High School, and worked many years in the Mt. Zion Store. Her life was spent in the Mt. Zion and Keosauqua.

At an early age she united with the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church and was a charter member and long time treasurer of its ladies Aid Society which was organized in 1914.

She was the last surviving member of a family of eight children, having been preceded in death by five brothers, George, John, Russell, A.C., and Chester P. Barker and two sisters, Nell Workman and Maude McIntosh.

Jose's many contributions to the Mount Zion community will life on as a fitting memorial to her life.

Her nieces, newphews(err), cousins and friends will cherish her memory always.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 29, 1983 at 1:30 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church with Rev. Charles McCracken, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Miller Chapel Cemetery east of Mt. Zion. A memorial was established for her church and contributions may be left at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
