Alvin R. Stephenson, 81, died at 2 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 1983, at his home in Birmingham. He was born June 28, 1902 near Lockridge, Iowa, the son of Charles and Minnie Elizabeth Eggenberger Stephenson. He lived most of his early life near Lockridge and the last 40 years in Birmingham. He was employed at Louden's for many years before his retirement. On August 23, 1922, at Lockridge, he married Ethel Duttweiler, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Glen of Erie, Ill., Robert of Keosauqua; three daughters, Frances Hinshaw of Montezuma, Pearl Grubb of Memphis, Mo., Winifred Fish of Rochester, Mich.; 19 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one brother, Martin of Whitefish, Mon.; two sisters, Esther Burnett and Martha Johns, both of Fairfield.

Mr. Stephenson was a member of the Birmingham United Methodist Church, Modern Woodman Lodge, and a former member of the Birmingham School Board.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 1983 at the Birmingham United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Kennedy officiating. Burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Burch Funeral Home of Birmingham was in charge of arrangements.
