Gladys H. Sadler

Gladys Heger Sadler, daughter of William and Rhetta Webb Heger, was born March 10, 1901, in Ottumwa and died on Thursday, Nov. 24, 1983 in Ottumwa Hospital at the age of 82.

On Dec. 17, 1937, she married J. Logan Sadler in Ottumwa. He died in 1955. A brother, Joe Heger, and a stepson, Hal Sadler also preceded her in death. Remaining are three stepdaughters, Fern Bailey, Grinnell, Fae Schewe, Douds, and Lena DeRosia, Lake Oswego, Oregon and two stepsons, Lawrence Calvin Sadler, Sacramento, Calif. and Russell Sadler, Grinnell.

Also surviving are 19 step-grandchildren, several great grand children, a sister-in-law, Wilma Heger, a niece and nephew of Paola, Kansas, other relatives and many friends.

Gladys had lived most of her life in the Selma and Douds communities, where she was known and respected for her neighborliness and willingness to be of service in any way she could be to anybody in need. She had resided the past four years in Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield where she assisted with those residents less able than she.

She was a member of Zion Bible Church and John Hyson Reneker Unit, American Legion Auxiliary at Douds.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 26, 1983 at 1:30 p.m. in Zion Bible Church near Douds, with Pastor Walter Shuka officiating. Interment was in Ottumwa Cemetery. Memorials to Zion Bible Church mission fund may be left at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds.
