Oscar H. Pencil

Oscar H. Pencil, 80, of Selma died at 9:09 p.m. July 20, 1983, in Ottumwa Hospital.

He was born Jan. 16, 1903, in Jefferson County near Rome to John and Hester Troutman Pencil. He spent most of his life in Jefferson and Van Buren Counties and the past 15 years in Selma. He married Velma Wood April 11, 1928, at Fairfield. She died in 1964. He married Nellie Ritz of Selma Jan. 14, 1968. A member of Selma United Methodist Church, he was a retired Dexter Company employee.

Survivors: his wife; sons Keith of rural Fairfield and Larry of Birmingham; a daughter, Lucille (Mrs. Dwayne) Giberson of Libertyville; a stepson, Ralp Ritz of Selma; a step-daughter, Janet Bickford of Selma; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brothers Everett of Washington and Ralph of Waterloo; and sisters, Cora Pencil and Bertha McDonough of North Liberty.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 23, 1983 at 1:30 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home at Douds, Dr. Chris Daniel officiating. Burial was in Friends Cemetery at Richland, Iowa.

A memorial was established to his church.
