Darrel A. Ferrel

Darrel A. Ferrel, son of Frank and Goldie Laughlin Ferrel, was born December 20, 1922 in Jefferson County and died Tuesday, June 21, 1983 in Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 60. He grew up in the Douds community and served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II.

On October 10, 1948 he married JoAnn Kaleff at Davenport. They have made their home on their farm south of Birmingham. Darrel was also employed twenty-five years at the Dexter Co. in Fairfield.

Remaining are his wife, his mother of Birmingham, a brother, Frank LeRoy of Birmingham, a sister, Betty Gonterman of Keosauqua, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

His father and a brother, Richard, preceded him in death.

Darrel was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Keosauqua.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a good neighbor and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 25, 1983 at 10:30 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Interment was in Mount Moriah Cemetery north of Douds. A memorial was established for the Heart Fund.
