T.M. PHELPS

Thomas Martin Phelps, son of Thomas M. and Nellie B. Tade Phelps, was born June 6, 1899 in Wapello County, Iowa and departed this life Thursday, July 7, 1983 at the home of his son-in-law an daughter Mr. and Mrs. Keith Kongable near Winfield, Iowa at the age of 84.

As a youth he moved to Harrisburg Township, Van Buren County, where he spent his life farming. On September 3, 1924 he married Susannah T. Poulter in Mt. Pleasant. She died in 1980.

Surviving are four sons, John (Pete) of Tucson, Arizona, Tom, Mt. Pleasant, Bill, Milan, Missouri, and Dave of Hillsboro; five daughters, Ruth Noren, Superior, Nebraska, Lois Noll, Stockport, Dorothy Miller, Dunkirk, Maryland, Helen Mathews, Mt. Union, and Mary Kongable, Winfield. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dewey of Mt. Pleasant.

T.M. Was a long-time active member of the Harrisburg Baptist Church, having served in numerous church offices over the years and maintaining an active interest in the work of the church throughout his life. He had been a member of the Farm Bureau, Hereford Association and other farm organizations.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 11, 1983 at 10:30 a.m. in the Harrisburg Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Buchanan and Rev. Edward Newman officiating. Interment was in Vale Cemetery near the church. A memorial was established for the Harrisburg Baptist Church. Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, was in charge of arrangements.
