Raymond Lyon

Raymond R. Lyon, 63, of Birmingham died at 4:05 p.m. June 8, 1983, in University Hospitals in Iowa City, where he had been hospitalized for 20 days.

He was born Oct. 13, 1919, in Woolson to Robert and Valeria Snider Lyon. He married Arlene Snider Lyon. He married Arlene Steele April 21, 1946, at Fairfield. He lived in the Birmingham area since 1932 and had worked at Condon Grain and Feed Company in Fairfield for 21 years and at Dexter Co. in Fairfield for 11 years. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Iowa Horseshoe Pitchers Association.

Survivors: his wife; daughters Mary Ann Pruden of Fairfield, Vickie Vorhies of Birmingham and Louise Stammerman of Des Moines; sons Robert and David of Fairfield; a stepson James Metcalf of Glasgow; eight grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren; sisters Verle Hall of Birmingham and Bernice Albaugh of Sigourney; and brothers Harold of Walcott, Bruce of Fairfield and Max of Burlington. Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 1983 at Birmingham Methodist Church, the Rev. David Kennedy officiating. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery, with military rites by Birmingham American Legion.

A memorial has been established to the Birmingham Fire Department.
