Dale Teal Barker

Word has been received from Longwood, Fla., of the death of Dale Teal Barker, son of Robert J. and Ethel Teal Barker.

Mr. Barker was born August 2, 1904 near Mount Zion and passed away Feb. 9, 1983 at the Americana Nursing Home in Orlando.

He was a 1923 graduate of Keosauqua High School and later graduated from the University of Iowa's School of Commerce in 1934. While at the University he was a letterman on the Hawkeye varsity track team.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in World in World War II, serving in the European Theater as Company Commander of the 976th Engineer Maintenance Company, and after the war spent a year with the Allied Occupation Forces in Germany leaving the military with the rank of major.

After the war he continued his career as a regional sales representative to various Iowa county maintenance facilities. He was a long time advocate in the field of soil, water, and forest conservation.

His survivors include his wife, the former Nellie (Myers) Kisling; three stepsons, Richard, Wallace, and Thomas Kisling; and one stepdaughter, Wendy (Mrs. Loren Robinson) of St. Paul, Minn.; and nine stepgrandchildren. Also a brother, Kenneth Barker of Mount Zion; a sister, Janet B. (Mrs. Stanley Davis) of Clinton, Iowa; and two nephews, Robert C. Barker and Larry J. Davis. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred.

Katie who was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fairfield, the Cross Lanes Club, and the literary Guild will be remembered as a good citizen and a friend, as well as devoted wife and mother.

After cremation a memorial service was held Feb. 12 at the Wekiva Presbyterian Church in Longwood.

Announcement will be made at a future date for a graveside service to accompany final interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Keosauqua.

Graveside memorial services for Dale Teal Barker will be held at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Keosauqua on May 28, 1983 at 2:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church.
