DORIS PONTE KIRCHNER

Doris Irene Kirchner, 58, of Birmingham, Iowa died Thursday, December 9, 1982, at 2:30 a.m. in Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua. She was formerly of Farmington.

Born May 10, 1924 at Mt. Hamill in Lee County, she was the daughter of Edward and Mabel DeRosear Ponte.

She was married to Kenneth Kirchner, who survives.

A graduate of Farmington High Scholl, she earned her B.S. at Iowa Wesleyan College, Mt. Pleasant and her Masters degree from the University of Iowa at Iowa City. She was a former elementary principal in the Keosauqua school.

she was a member of the Sharon Presbyterian Church, rural Farmington.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, one son, Edward of Birmingham; one daughter, Phyllis Robbins of Casper, Wyoming; her step-mother, Edna Ponte of Farmington; one sister, Ruth Wellman of West Point; two step-sisters, Ruth Harmon of Farmington and Betty Specht of Oceanside, California; and a brother, Jack Turner of San Diego, California; four grandchildren and several step-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 11, at the Behner Funeral Home, Fairfield. The Rev. David Kennedy officiated. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham. Memorials were established for the Diabetic or Heart Funds.
