CLYDE J. ROBERTS

Clyde J. Roberts, 85, died Monday night at his home in Keosauqua. He was the son of Charles M. and Lennie Bennett Roberts, born August 16, 1897 at Cuba, Iowa. On October 27, 1920, he married June Watkins in Ottumwa. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Kendall and his wife Dorothy of Keosauqua, and James and his wife Darleen of Bloomfield; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Daphne Roberts of St. Louis.

He operated a service station in Albia and moved to Keosauqua in 1940 where he operated Roberts Super Value for 17 years. He later served as Van Buren County Auditor for 14 years, retiring in 1969. He was a member of the Keosauqua Christian Church, serving as an elder and treasurer for 33 years. He was a long time secretary of the Keosauqua Rotary Club and treasurer of Keosauqua Lodge No. AF&AM. He was one of the founders of the Van Buren County Sheep Empire Days as well as the Van Buren County Development Association. For 26 years, he organized the Keosauqua community baseball trip to St. Louis.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 7, 1982, at 10:30 a.m. at the Keosauqua Christian Church with Rev. Bob Patterson and Rev. Ron Follmer officiating. Pedrick Funeral Home of Keosauqua was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials to his church may be left at the funeral home.

Masonic services and burial were at Fellows Cemetery, Keosauqua.
