LEONARD LAVERN JOHNSON

Leonard LaVern Johnson, son of Frank C. and Myrtle Boyd Johnson, was born April 2, 1922, in Cedar County, Iowa and departed this life Thursday, September 30, 1982 at his home in the Brainerd-Garrison, Minnesota area at the age of 60.

He had been a resident of Minnesota since 1959, at which time he purchased Borden Lake Resort, which he operated until 1972. A veteran of the Pacific Theatre during World War II, he was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1816, Garrison, Minnesota. He was also a member of the Eagles Aerie No. 287 in Brainerd. A millwright by trade, he was affiliated with Local No. 548 of the Millwright and Machine Erectors Union Local 548 in St. Paul for over 25 years.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanne; a son Kenneth of Nitro, West Virginia; two daughters, Darla Maske and Diana Anderson, both of Brainerd; and five grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Louise Rudd, Central City, Iowa, Mary Lou Schafer, Robins, Iowa and Doris Niles; two brothers, Willard of Mechanicsville, Iowa and John of Lisbon, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and an infant granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 4, 1982, at 1 p.m. in the Keosauqua United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Knupp officiating. Interment with military rites by Beer-Baker Post, American Legion, was in Fellows Cemetery. Pedrick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

A memorial was established for the Van Buren County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

There will be a memorial service in the Garrison-Brainerd area at a later date.
