LELA R. HOLMES

Mrs. Lela R. Holmes, 87, Good Samaritan Center, died in Van Buren County Hospital at 8:25 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 1982.

She was born November 23, 1894, in Scotland County, Missouri to John W. and Martha Van Hyning Hughes. She married Samuel W. Holmes November 18, 1912; he died in 1975.

The couple farmed in Harrisburg Township, retired in 1973 and moved to Keosauqua. She was a member of the Congregational Church.

Surviving: a son, Maurice, Torrance, California; four brothers, Reginald Hughes, Los Gatos, California, Robert Hughes, Sacramento, California, Rex Hughes, Tucson, Arizona and Roscoe Hughes, Keosauqua; three sisters, Louise Wolf, Fort Madison, and Lulu Beggs and Lenora Peacock, both of Keosauqua and one grandson.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, at the Pedrick Funeral Home with the Revs. Mary Nolin and John Nolin officiating. Burial was in the Bonaparte Cemetery. A memorial for the Congregational Church has been established.
