CHARLES SOWERS

Charles C. Sowers, 74, of Mt. Pleasant, died early Friday, March 5, 1982, at the Henry County Health Center.

Born June 29, 1907, at Farmington, he was the son of George D. and Della M. Krenmeyer Sowers. On October 17, 1929, at Keokuk, he married Thelma R. Bachman who survives.

Mr. Sowers served on the board of trustees as chairman of the Henry County Memorial Hospital from 1957 to 1969, served as mayor of Mt. Pleasant from 1964 to 1967 and had owned and operated the Sowers Insurance Agency, Mt. Pleasant for 20 years. He had served on the steering committee during the reorganization of the Mt. Pleasant Community School District.

Mr. Sowers had been a chairman of the Community Chest drive. A graduate of Parsons College, Fairfield, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mt. Pleasant, and was a past member of Kiwanis and a life member of the Elks, Fairfield. He had been active in Boy Scouts and was an avid supporter of athletics at Mt. Pleasant Community High School.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Mrs. Dale (Beverly) Davis, Tucson, Arizona; one grandson and one nephew.

His parents, three brothers, Roy, Earl, and Harold, and one sister, Louise Sanford, preceded him in death.

Funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 7, at the First Presbyterian Church, Mt. Pleasant. The Rev. Ronald McMenamin officiated with interment in the Forest Home Cemetery.

The Weir Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials were established for the Henry County Health Center or the First Presbyterian Church.
