THOMAS O. NUTT

Thomas O. Nutt, son of Thomas P. and Mattie Findlay Nutt, was born April 27, 1904 near Douds and departed this life Wednesday, March 10, 1982 at University Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 77.

He spent his life in the Douds community, where he graduated from high school. He attended the University of Iowa and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity there.

On September 16, 1925 he married Madelyn Blakeway at Galesburg, Illinois. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Jr. of Broad Run, Virginia and John of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a daughter, Caroline Kunzman of Albuquerque, New Mexico; nine grandchildren.

Tom operated a garage in Douds for a number of years and farmed. He served as a State Representative in the Iowa Legislature in the 57th and 58th General Assemblies and had served on the Van Buren County Board of Supervisors since 1973. He was chairman of the board at the time of his death, as well as chairman of the Area 15 Regional Planning Commission, a member of the Southeast Iowa Crime Commission and Treasurer of the Mount Moriah Cemetery Association. He had served as president of the Douds-Leando school board and the Van Buren County Board of Education. Tom was a fifty-year member and Past Master of Celestial Lodge No. 413, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in Douds, a member of Zarepath Consistory and Kaaba Shrine, both at Davenport, the Ottumwa York Rite Masonic bodies, starlight Lodge No. 350, Knights of Pythiss at Douds and the Douds Community Club, Douds Field Day Association, Douds Saddle Club and Selma Trail Riders.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 14, 1982 at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with Donald Parrett and Jon Finney officiating. Interment with Masonic rites was in Mount Moriah Cemetery, north of Douds. Memorials were established for Shriners Hospitals and Van Buren County Mem.....(remainder missing)
