J. PHILIP DORSON

James Philip Dorson, son of Otte and Clara Patterson Dorson, was born September 7, 1904 near Bentonsport and departed this life Wednesday, February 3, 1982, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 77.

On December 12, 1928, he married Selma Cochran at Fairfield. They farmed in Davis and Van Buren Counties, the past several years in the Cantril community.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Roberta Boyd and her husband, Charles of Fairfield; a son, George, and his wife, Beverly of Salida, Colorado; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Paul of Bloomfield, Everett of New Athens, Illinois, Ernest of Macon, Missouri, and Lester of Portland, Oregon; a sister, Catherine Croft of Fort Worthy, Texas. Two sisters, Ethel and Arta and a brother, Arthur, preceded him in death.

He was a member of the former Home Prairie Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 6, 1982, at 1 p.m. in the Cantril United Methodist Church with Rev. Edward Kail, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery at Cantril. Pedrick Funeral Home of Keosauqua was in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established for the Cancer Fund.
